Soapstone is a material that naturally retains heat, and radiates that heat evenly even after a fire has died down. Many companies offer wood stoves built with Soapstone, we use it to line the inside of a firebox, create a fireplace surround for a gas insert, or protect your floor under and around a wood stove with a Soapstone Heart. Soapstone can even be used to build entire masonry heaters that are extremely efficient, and often require only one fire per day to heat an entire living space for the day. The thermal properties of soapstone allow it to be exposed to extremely high temperatures with out cracking or deforming, and because to retains heat so effectively it typically only gets warm to the touch, and slowly releases that heat throughout the day. |
